I don't think that I'd consider the STM32WB competition for the ESP32, since the latter supports dual-band Bluetooth (not BLE 5, IIRC) and Wi-Fi, versus the new ST part which is BLE 5 and 802.15.4 and friends. It's more in competition with SiLabs, Nordic and "soon" TI. Wi-Fi and BLE together are still a rarety.
